GARS1 and epilepsy: GlyRs are pentameric assemblages,combinations of five types of subunits (α1−α4 andβ), which may be α-homopentamers or α/β-heteropentamers.15 GlyRs, along with GABAARs, performan inhibitory function in the central nervous system.16 The disruption of GlyR activity contributes to such brainpathology as hyperekplexia (startle response), autism spectrum disorders,chronic pain, and epilepsy (for review, see ref (17)).
