Intriguingly, the same cysteine residue on annexin A1, Cys189, has been shown to be modified by DMF in neurons and astrocytes (59), and low annexin A1 levels were found to correlate with severity of relapsing-remitting MS (60), a disease for which DMF is used as treatment. The gene discussed is ANXA1; the disease is relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.
