TP53 and cancer: Thus, although p53 loss per se does not directly lead to centrosome amplification (Fukasawa et al., 1996; Marthiens et al., 2013), p53 function is commonly inactivated prior to WGD during cancer evolution (Carter et al., 2012; Zack et al., 2013; Bielski et al., 2018) and would be permissive for the proliferation of newly formed tetraploid cells or cancer cells with extra centrosomes.
