More recently, missense and nonsense mutations in the mARC1 gene MARC1 were associated with protection from cirrhosis, reduced levels of hepatic fat, and lower levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [187], while genetically determined increases in the expression of MARC1 adversely affected liver enzymes, liver fat and circulating lipids, as analysed via Mendelian randomisation [186]. Here, MTARC1 is linked to Cirrhosis.
