One study that was designed to study the effects of corosolic acid on prostate cancer cell lines found that corosolic acid specifically induced NRF2 transcriptionally by decreasing CpG DNA methylation in the NRF2 promoter region and the protein levels of the epigenetic enzymes DNMTs in TRAMP-C1 cells, which led to the increase of the mRNA and protein levels of antioxidant enzymes such as HO-1 and NQO1. The gene discussed is NFE2L2; the disease is prostate carcinoma.
