The overexpression of PTBP1 can induce cardiac hypertrophy and exacerbate cardiac fibrosis, either by disrupting alternative splicing or by reducing mRNA stability [102,103], while the knockdown of PTBP1 improves cardiac fibrosis in the MI-injured mouse heart, indicating a potential role in cardiac repair [102]. This evidence concerns the gene PTBP1 and cardiac hypertrophy.
