In detail, we demonstrated higher levels of DKK1 and sclerostin, inhibitors of bone formation, in T1D patients compared with the controls, but interestingly, consistently with a better BMD simultaneously, DKK1 and sclerostin levels reached the controls’ level in CSII patients, whereas with respect to the control and CSII groups DKK1 and sclerostin levels were elevated in MDI group, further supporting the crucial role of the type of therapy on bone health and glycemic control in T1D patients [164]. This evidence concerns the gene SOST and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
