Additionally, Heuser et al. in a clinical study including 399 patients, 218 of which were affected by temporal lobe epilepsy, performing DNA sequencing on the AQP4 gene and KCNJ9 and KCNJ10 genes (coding for potassium channel Kir4.1) proved a possible association between polymorphisms of the AQP4 gene and any form of epilepsy [44]. This evidence concerns the gene KCNJ9 and temporal lobe epilepsy.
