It has been documented that the excessive androgens present in PCOS result in endoplasmic reticulum stress in ovarian granulosa cells, resulting in proliferation of follicles via the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K/AKT) pathway and ultimate formation of the ovarian cysts seen in PCOS [46]. Here, AKT1 is linked to polycystic ovary syndrome.
