Although several predisposing genes have been identified over the years, such as CDKN2A (cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A), MC1R (Melanocortin 1 Receptor), MITF (melanocyte-inducing transcription factor), and BAP1 (BRCA1 associated protein 1), not all cases of familial melanoma can be simply explained by pathogenic germline mutations [25]. The gene discussed is BAP1; the disease is familial melanoma.
