A large genome-wide association study (GWAS) on POAG involving 1,236 cases and 34,877 controls in Iceland identified a common sequence variant at 7q31 and then replicated the association in 2,175 POAG cases and 2,064 controls, identifying a risk variant close to CAV1 and caveolin-2 (CAV2), which are expressed in the TM and RGCs [79]. Here, CAV1 is linked to open-angle glaucoma.
