This study (37) identifies for the first-time activation of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway in podocytes as a significant contributor to the pathogenesis of glomerular disease of either metabolic (Diabetic kidney disease- DKD) or non-metabolic (Alport Syndrome-AS) origin, suggesting that STING targeting represents a potential therapeutic option to prevent kidney function loss in these conditions. This evidence concerns the gene CGAS and diabetic kidney disease.
