FCGR3A and Sepsis: FcγRIIIA was found to play opposite roles in sepsis, depending on the type of bacteria involved (and the organ infected), and FcαRI expression was associated with a protective function triggered by the S.P and FcγRIIIA interaction, suggesting that FcαRI counteracts the deleterious effect of FcγRIIIA activation via the action of upstream pathways in the studied cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced model (a commonly used procedure for modeling sepsis in vivo) (50).
