The Human Protein Atlas shows that under homeostatic conditions, hepatocytes do not express NLRP3 and ASC, although they express low levels of CASP1. Some studies show that diabetes, liver inflammation, and steatosis induce the expression of Nlrp3, Casp1, and Il1b in the liver tissue, including immune and non-immune cells (46, 124, 125). Here, CASP1 is linked to steatosis.
