NOS2 and hypertensive disorder: Although female rats have greater NO compared to males (Glushkovskaya‐Semyachkina et al., 2006; Loria et al., 2014), there are conflicting data in the literature regarding the impact of sex on the response to chronic NOS inhibition in normotensive rats where normotensive female rats have shown to be more sensitive (Wang et al., 2003), less sensitive (Sainz et al., 2004), or equally sensitive (Wu et al., 2001) to NOS inhibition‐induced hypertension compared to age‐matched males.
