Increasing anandamide levels via pharmacological inhibition of its degrading enzyme, fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) (Kathuria et al., 2003), or genetic deletion of FAAH (Moreira et al., 2008) elicits phenotypes that are prominent for decreased anxiety-like behavior, as we observed in our evaluation of SGIP1−/− mice.
