A pilot study examining genome wide single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 383 ME/CFS via the commercial company 23andMe showed ~ 70%-80% of ME/CFS subjects possess variants in genes encoding for airway, eye, and salivary mucin proteins (MUC16, MUC19, and MUC22) at 1.60 to 3.75 the reference population (see Table 1)[7]. This evidence concerns the gene MUC22 and myalgic encephalomeyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome.
