Notably, GnT-IX mRNA levels in glioma cells cultured in vitro were almost 30 times higher than those in xenograft mouse brains, suggesting that the epigenetic inhibition of GnT-IX expression is lost in cells cultured in vitro. These relatively high levels of GnT-IX expression in cell culture will be beneficial for screening GnT-IX inhibitors as potential glioma therapeutics.
