Based on the findings of the above-mentioned previous studies and results of the present study, we hypothesized that the elevated expression of xanthine and hypoxanthine in the HPW group may be due to the relatively lower degree of hypoxia in the HPW group compared to the GDM group; this leads to a decrease in the production or activity of XO, thereby decreasing the synthesis of uric acid. The gene discussed is XDH; the disease is gestational diabetes.
