ZMPSTE24-deficient mice are a model of Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS), which recapitulates many hallmarks of normal human aging [45, 46] including weight loss, sarcopenia, impaired muscle contraction, kyphosis, grip abnormality, cardiomyopathy, peripheral neuropathy, osteoarthritis, and reduced neuromuscular performance [43, 47–50]. Here, ZMPSTE24 is linked to sarcopenia.
