In contrast, higher NfL levels were significantly associated with worse white matter integrity (MD: β = 0.12 (0.06; 0.19), p < 0.001), with similar trends for larger volume of WMH and the presence of lacunes but not cerebral microbleeds (Table 3, Fig. 3, Supplementary Fig. 2). The gene discussed is NEFL; the disease is cerebral microbleeds.
