Alternative splicing is associated with many cardiac diseases including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (alternate splicing of myomesin and troponin), myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1; alternate splicing of dystrophia myotonica protein kinase), Brugada syndrome (abnormal splicing of SCN5A), dilated cardiomyopathy, ischemic cardiomyopathy, and atherosclerosis (65). Here, SCN5A is linked to myotonic dystrophy type 1.
