(76) colonized C57BL/6 mice with individual Ruminococcus gnavus (RG) strains from lupus patients, and found that lupus-derived RG strains enhanced intestinal permeability, elevated serum levels of zonulin which is a regulator of tight junction formation between cells forming the intestinal barrier, and translocated to mesenteric lymph nodes. The gene discussed is HP; the disease is systemic lupus erythematosus.
