Astrocytes have been shown to take on a senescence phenotype following treatment with amyloid-beta oligomers [4, 18], and astrocytes expressing the senescent markers p16INK4a and IL-6 have been found in the frontal cortex of aged patients, Alzheimer’s disease patients, and around amyloid plaques [4, 14]. The gene discussed is CDKN2A; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
