Beyond this, bone marrow supernatant from mice with S. aureus osteomyelitis had an elevated level of cholesterol content and an upregulated mRNA expression of ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1), a critical transporter for cholesterol efflux, was detected in S. aureus-infected BMDMs,independent of the presence of the ApoE (Figures 5C–G).
