MTHFR and metabolic syndrome: Di Renzo et al. (2014) reported that MTHFR C677T polymorphism was found to be directly proportional to the increase in body fat mass and decrease in muscle ratio, and they showed that obese patients with metabolic syndrome could lose weight rapidly with a hypocaloric diet. Despite all these studies, changes in differentiation cannot be explained by the MTHFR gene alone according to the report by (Nic-Can et al., 2019) which demonstrates the importance of epigenetic factors on differentiation potential of MSCs.
