Numerous studies indicate that certain types of cancer cells overexpress the ABCB1 [also known as P-glycoprotein (P-gp)] or ABCG2 transporter [also known as breast cancer resistanceprotein (BCRP)], which significantly decreases the intracellular concentration of anticancer drugs, thereby decreasing or abrogating their efficacies, conferring resistance to these drugs (Engle and Kumar, 2022; Moinul et al., 2022). This evidence concerns the gene ABCG2 and cancer.
