CAMP and infection: Human cathelicidins, such as hCAP18 (either its 17-kDa (140 amino acids) or 5-kDa (37 amino acids) forms) and Leucine-leucine-37 (LL-37), isolated from a large prepropeptide in immune cells (neutrophils) or non-immune tissues (like testis), act against bacteria, fungi, and viruses as a response to infections and destroy microbial membranes (31).
