In this article, we discuss the involvement of several similar but distinct inflammasomes, including NOD-like receptor (NLR) family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3), absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2), NLRP1, NLRP6, NLRP9b, NLR family CARD domain containing 4 (NLRC4), and caspase recruitment domain family member 8 (CARD8) in the infection of different types of viruses, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), influenza virus 1 (IAV), SARS-CoV-2, and others. The gene discussed is AIM2; the disease is infection.
