For all individuals with CF and couples with a child with CF, a critical aspect of preconceptual genetic counseling is to educate families about the variability of CF, the shifting prognosis given CFTR modulator therapies, and the fact that, although genotype-phenotype data may provide some guidance about the pulmonary and non-pulmonary features that an individual with CF may experience, there is significant intra- and inter-familial variability [32] as well as considerations related to having multiple close family members with CF [33]. The gene discussed is CFTR; the disease is cystic fibrosis.
