In E. faecalis, the Ebp (endocarditis and biofilm-associated pili) proteins, namely EbpA, EbpB, and EbpC, are components of Ebp pili; these have been shown to be essential for biofilm formation in vitro with regard to endocarditis in rats [26], as well as urinary tract infections in mice [27]. The gene discussed is EBP; the disease is endocarditis.
