The enhanced GM3 expression via VPA-induced activation of St3gal5 clearly inhibits albuminuria and glomerulosclerosis in anti-nephrin antibody-induced podocytopathy model mice, and the expression level of GM3 in the glomeruli of MCD and FSGS patients is inversely correlated with the degree of proteinuria [17,18]. The gene discussed is ST3GAL5; the disease is focal segmental glomerulosclerosis.
