Blood profiles in acutely infected COVID-19-patients without comorbidities have shown that the blood markers interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor-necrosis-factor-alpha (TNF-α) are strong predictors for disease severity and death [16], while there are also non-cytokine biomarkers such D-dimers, C-reactive protein (CRP), and ferritin that are also elevated in COVID-19-infected patients compared to non-COVID-19-infected people [17,18].
