Using an experimental model of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS)-induced endotoxin from Salmonella typhimurium, the authors reported that the essential oil reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, suppressed the TLR4, MD2, and MyD88 expression in mesenteric lymph nodes (MLNs) and ileum mucosa, and reversed the activation of NF-κB in both tissues. The gene discussed is TLR4; the disease is systemic inflammatory response syndrome.
