Another study by Seidel et al. showed that IL-10, together with different pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, and IL-8, appears to be increased in the tongue smears of orofacial cleft-affected neonates, and a more pronounced secretion of these cytokines has been noted in patients with higher orofacial cleft clinical severity [19].
