NCF1 and autoimmune disease: The first single nucleotide polymorphism to be positioned in polygenic autoimmune diseases was the neutrophil cytosol factor (Ncf1), encoding a protein (NCF1, alias p47phox) critically involved in the formation of the NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2) complex, responsible for the induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), as an essential regulator of several autoimmune-mediated chronic inflammatory disorders.
