Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have shown that changes in genes such as patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing 3 (PNPLA3) and transmembrane 6 superfamily member 2 (TM6SF2) have a differential impact on the development of NAFLD [5].The liver has an indispensable function in balancing lipid metabolism by modulating the production, oxidation, and transport of triglycerides (TGs), free fatty acids (FFA), cholesterol, and bile acids (BA) [6]. Here, PNPLA3 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
