Although serum calprotectin and S100A12 concentrations appear to have limited utility in differentiating pancreatitis presentations—at least in Miniature Schnauzers—serum α1PI concentrations and potentially also the serum calprotectin-to-S100A12 ratio might present non-invasive surrogate biomarkers to stratify cases of canine pancreatitis (e.g., based on severity). The gene discussed is S100A12; the disease is pancreatitis.
