To understand how cyanotoxins modulate cell steatosis in HCC cells we analyzed the effect of cyanotoxins on AKT/mTOR and cellular autophagy pathways since the activation of AKT/mTOR inhibits autophagy [55] and inhibition of autophagy increases cell steatosis in NAFLD [56]. Here, MTOR is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
