Early studies of serum MOG antibodies used western blot or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to detect the presence of autoantibodies; these assays showed that up to 38% of MS patients and 53% of patients with other inflammatory neurologic diseases (viral or bacterial encephalitis) have detectable MOG IgG, compared to 3% in patients with noninflammatory neurologic diseases (13). This evidence concerns the gene MOG and nervous system disorder.
