Hyperforin is best suited for the treatment of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and chronic lymphoid leukaemia (CLL), triggering apoptosis through the modulation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, where it destroys the kinase activity of serine/threonine protein kinase B (PKB)/Akt1 and thereby encourages the activation of proapoptotic Bad and procaspases-9/-3. This evidence concerns the gene BAD and acute myeloid leukemia.
