The role of HLA in COVID-19 pathogenesis is strongly supported by the findings showing a significant positive correlation of the HLA-A*: 01:01g-B*08:01g-C*07:01g-DRB1*03:01g haplotype with both COVID-19 incidence and mortality in the Italian population (suggestive of susceptibility), whereas haplotype HLA-A*02.01g-B*18.01g-C*07.01g-DRB1*11.04g showed a negative significant correlation (suggestive of protection) (137). Here, HLA-DRB1 is linked to COVID-19.
