LGALS3 and hypertensive disorder: GAL-3, a member of the galectin-family, is widely expressed in macrophages, neutrophils, eosinophils and mast cells.26 These cells play a vital role in the process of myocardial damage, especially in the process of myocardial fibrosis.27 It has been shown in a study28 that the expression of GAL-3 was significantly increased in the myocardial tissue of mice with fibrosis and hypertrophy in the late stage of hypertension, and GAL-3 inhibitors could be used to intervene in the process of myocardial fibrosis in spontaneously hypertensive rats.
