WNK2 and atrial fibrillation: The DNA skeleton of NETs contains nuclear and mitochondrial DNA, with abundant neutrophil granules and cytoplasm proteins scaffolded.16 Previously we described that NETs sustain pathogenic fibrosis after acute myocardium infarction (AMI) and contribute to the formation of ventricular aneurysm through the activation of Smad and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways.17 As fibrosis is closely related to AF, the involvement of NETs in AF was investigated in this study.
