2-OHOA, granted orphan designation for the treatment of glioma in both the European Union (EU) and the United States (USA), is a novel oral synthetic hydroxylated fatty acid derived from oleic acid acting via a novel technology, melitherapy (membrane-lipid therapy), regulating the membrane-lipid composition and structure in glioma and other tumours through SMS-1 expression activation [6, 15, 16]. This evidence concerns the gene SGMS1 and glioma.
