Specific findings of this study include (1) the observation that postweaning HFS diet exacerbates the impact of NMS on NAFLD, and the putative associated mechanisms included in this study; (2) the positive correlation of Cd36 mRNA and protein levels with hepatic TG content; and (3) the identification of two vulnerable DMRs in the Cd36 promoter whose methylation levels very strongly negatively correlated with Cd36 mRNA in a mRNA variant- and CpG site-specific manner. Here, CD36 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
