Studies have reported that TRPA1 in these cells plays key roles in cerebrovascular diseases and dementia, such as cerebral ischemia (23, 24) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) (25, 26); however, the contribution of TRPA1 to pathology is controversial, as it has both protective and destructive effects. This evidence concerns the gene TRPA1 and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
