To identify the possible regulatory mechanisms behind the continued maintenance of methylation of LTR12C elements, we examined binding data (ChIP-exo) of KRAB-associated zinc-finger proteins (Imbeault et al., 2017), a family of proteins associated with the regulation of transposons, on all LTR12Cs present within hepatic cancer PMDs (Li et al., 2016). Here, ZNF146 is linked to liver cancer.
