Although LB pathology has been linked to motor function in symptomatic individuals41, motor function may be affected at later stages in some cases with LBD as shown in prodromal LBD (that is, DLB at the mild cognitive impairment (MCI) stage and isolated REM sleep behavior disorder), where only about one-half of these patients have reduced dopamine transporter uptake in basal ganglia as demonstrated by single-photon emission computed tomography or PET42. The gene discussed is SLC6A3; the disease is REM sleep behavior disorder.
