BAP1 and neoplasm: Indeed, BAP1 deletions and loss of function mutations are common in many cancers (Carbone et al., 2020; Han, Purwin, & Aplin, 2021; Murali, Wiesner, & Scolyer, 2013; Yan et al., 2022), and in these tumors, xc− activity would be likely to provide extracellular cystine and tumor protection.
